Standard Outpatient & Aftercare
Weekly individual and group sessions that provide ongoing support, relapse prevention, and accountability as you rebuild your life in recovery.
Medical Detoxification
Medical detox is the supervised process of safely clearing addictive substances from your body while managing withdrawal symptoms under professional clinical care. At Harmony Hills Healing, our Bakersfield detox program provides 24/7 medical supervision, continuous vital-sign monitoring, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the withdrawal process.
Detox is the essential first step in addiction treatment. Attempting to withdraw without medical support can be dangerous and, in some cases, life-threatening. Our board-certified physicians and licensed nurses are experienced in managing withdrawal from all major substances, and they adjust your care plan in real time as your body stabilizes.
Detox Process
Assessment
Upon arrival, our medical team conducts a thorough physical examination, substance use history review, and mental health screening to create your personalized detox plan.
Stabilization
You receive around-the-clock medical monitoring and, when appropriate, FDA-approved medications to ease withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and prevent medical complications.
Transition to Treatment
Once medically stable, your care team works with you to transition seamlessly into our residential or outpatient programs to begin the therapeutic phase of recovery.

Residential Treatment
Residential treatment is an immersive, live-in program where you reside at our Bakersfield facility full-time while receiving intensive, structured addiction therapy every day. This level of care removes you from the environment and triggers associated with substance use, giving you the focused time and space to build a strong foundation for lasting recovery.
At Harmony Hills Healing, our residential program offers 30, 60, and 90-day treatment tracks. Your clinical team will recommend the duration that best supports your recovery goals, the severity of your addiction, and any co-occurring conditions. Longer stays are associated with higher rates of sustained sobriety.
Duration Options
- 30-Day Program: Foundational treatment for those with shorter substance use histories or strong external support systems.
- 60-Day Program: Extended care that allows deeper therapeutic work and behavioral pattern change.
- 90-Day Program: Comprehensive track recommended by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for optimal long-term outcomes.

Outpatient Programs
Outpatient treatment allows you to receive structured addiction therapy at our Bakersfield facility while continuing to live at home and maintain your daily responsibilities. These programs are ideal as a step-down from residential care or as a primary treatment option for those with moderate substance use disorders who have a stable living environment.
Harmony Hills Healing offers three levels of outpatient care, each designed to provide the right intensity of support for your current stage of recovery.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Duration: 2-4 weeks. PHP is the most intensive outpatient option, providing 5-6 hours of structured programming per day, 5 days per week. You participate in individual therapy, group sessions, psychoeducation, and skill-building during the day, then return home in the evenings. PHP is the recommended next step after completing residential treatment or for individuals who need a high level of clinical structure but do not require 24-hour supervision.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Duration: 8-12 weeks. IOP offers 3-4 hours of therapy sessions, 3-5 days per week, typically scheduled in the morning or evening to accommodate work and school commitments. This level of care emphasizes relapse prevention, coping strategies, and building a strong recovery support network.
Standard Outpatient
Standard outpatient care consists of 1-2 individual or group therapy sessions per week. This level is designed for those who have completed higher levels of care and need continued accountability and clinical support as they transition into independent recovery. Sessions focus on maintaining sobriety, processing challenges, and reinforcing healthy behaviors.
Program Comparison
| Feature | PHP | IOP | Standard OP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hours Per Day | 5-6 hours | 3-4 hours | 1-2 hours |
| Days Per Week | 5 days | 3-5 days | 1-2 days |
| Typical Duration | 2-4 weeks | 8-12 weeks | Ongoing |
| Individual Therapy | 2x/week | 1x/week | 1x/week |
| Group Therapy | Daily | 3-4x/week | 1x/week |
| Best For | Step-down from residential | Moderate care needs | Maintenance & aftercare |
Step-Down Care Pathway
Most clients at Harmony Hills Healing progress through our step-down continuum: after completing residential treatment, they transition to PHP for 2-4 weeks, then to IOP for 8-12 weeks, and finally to standard outpatient sessions for ongoing support. This gradual reduction in intensity helps reinforce recovery skills while restoring independence and daily routine.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Dual diagnosis treatment is an integrated clinical approach that simultaneously addresses substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions in a single, coordinated program. At Harmony Hills Healing, we recognize that addiction rarely exists in isolation. Nearly half of all individuals seeking treatment for substance abuse also live with a mental health disorder, and treating one without the other significantly increases the risk of relapse.
Our multidisciplinary team of addiction counselors, licensed therapists, and psychiatric professionals work together to develop a unified treatment plan that targets both conditions at their roots. This ensures that the underlying psychological and emotional drivers of substance use are addressed alongside the addiction itself.
Common Co-Occurring Disorders We Treat
Depression
Persistent sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest that often drives self-medication through substance use. Our therapists use CBT, behavioral activation, and medication management to address depressive disorders.
Anxiety Disorders
Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and panic disorder frequently co-occur with addiction. We employ exposure therapy, CBT, mindfulness techniques, and pharmacotherapy as needed.
PTSD
Trauma-related disorders are a leading cause of substance abuse. Our trauma-informed care includes EMDR, Seeking Safety, and somatic experiencing to process traumatic memories safely.
Bipolar Disorder
The mood swings of bipolar disorder can trigger cycles of substance use. Our psychiatric team provides mood stabilization alongside addiction treatment for sustained recovery.
Our Integrated Approach
Rather than treating addiction and mental health in separate tracks, Harmony Hills Healing uses a fully integrated model. This means your individual therapist, psychiatrist, and addiction counselor communicate continuously, share clinical notes, and adjust your treatment plan as a team. Key elements of our dual diagnosis program include:
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation upon admission
- Medication management by board-certified psychiatrists
- Individual therapy using evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT, EMDR)
- Dual-focused group therapy sessions
- Psychoeducation on the relationship between mental health and addiction
- Coping skills development and emotional regulation training
- Coordinated aftercare planning with community mental health providers
